His Excellency Dr. Peer Gebauer, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Romania, visited the NATO Force Integration Unit Romania (NFIU ROU) on December 19, marking an important moment in the development of cooperation between Germany and NFIU ROU for an efficient deployment of NATO troops on Romanian territory.
“It is important to have such meetings in order to maintain close relations with those involved in facilitating the deployment of our troops from Germany to Romania and to explore new aspects of NATO military operations in the region,” Ambassador Gebauer said during the visit.
“For the first time, the German Ambassador has honored us with his presence at the unit’s headquarters and we are pleased with the interest shown in understanding the challenges related to the deployment of troops in Romania,” added the Commander of NFIU ROU, Colonel Cojocaru Ioan-Tiberiu.
The recent deployment of four Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft from Germany to the 57th Air Base “Mihail Kogălniceanu” demonstrates the alliance’s commitment to regional security. The Eurofighter aircraft, with advanced capabilities, support NATO’s air policing mission, strengthening the alliance’s air security on its southeastern flank.
The mission of NFIU ROU is to facilitate the rapid deployment of NATO or allied forces to Romania to strengthen the alliance’s security on its eastern flank. In collaboration with the Romanian authorities, NFIU identifies in advance the logistical and transport needs of these forces, thus ensuring a rapid deployment in the region.
